HAND THERAPIST
A Hand Therapist can be either an Occupational Therapist (OT) or a Physical Therapist (PT) who specializes in providing rehabilitative care for patients with hand, wrist, elbow or shoulder problems, collectively referred to as the upper extremity. Their specialized skills encompass both assessment and treatment, including splinting, strengthening and wound care.

All of NW Hand’s therapists are Hand Therapists. Becoming a Hand Therapist requires considerable advanced study beyond the primary OT and PT level. Many Hand Therapists continue their training even further to become Certified Hand Therapists (CHTs). To become a CHT, a Hand Therapist is required to have a minimum of five years clinical experience, at least 4,000 hours of care dedicated to the practice of Hand Therapy, and must pass a comprehensive certification exam, with recertification required every 5 years.
